Asela Abeyawardena is primarily a ceramicist as well as a painter, sculptor and Ikebana artist. She has has exhibited her work extensively in Sri Lanka as well as internationally. She has also won numerous international awards for three dimensional art. One of the most prominent of awards being the first place in Dubai Ceramics Award, 2017 which was conducted by the American University of Dubai and judged by Magdalene Odundo (OBE), vice chancellor of the University of Creative Arts, UK.
Her art has been critiqued and published in art journals and also have been used as illustrations for poetry publications. Her goal is to innovate ways to use the versatility of ceramic as a medium to create contemporary Sri Lankan visual art. She has conducted numerous workshops for various organizations in order to create awareness as to how art could be used to enhance well being.
