Sanath Herath was born in the central hills of Kandy, Sri Lanka, where a deep connection to nature was cultivated from an early age. His passion for the natural world led him to Colombo, where he pursued a degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of Moratuwa. This academic journey not only sharpened his understanding of landscape design but also instilled in him a profound appreciation for nature conservation and the intricate relationships that sustain ecosystems.
Currently, Sanath serves as a lecturer at the University of Moratuwa, where he teaches landscape architecture, drawing from his experience and passion for ecological balance. His artistic practice is deeply inspired by the transformations and complexities found in nature, exploring themes of metamorphosis, symbiosis, and environmental change.
In 2023, Sanath held an exhibition at Barefoot Gallery titled “Metamorphosis Papiliones Ceylonesis”, which focused on the conservation of Sri Lanka's native butterflies and their remarkable life cycle transformations. His work is a reflection of his commitment to both art and nature, bridging the gap between ecological awareness and creative expression.
